How do I set up two-factor authentication for remote access? (iOS)

We are implementing two-factor authentication for software that allows an employee working remotely to access resources on the school's network. This change will apply to both Horizon virtual desktop and WatchGuard Mobile VPN. After entering your username/email address and password to log into either software, you'll also have to enter a numeric code that will be sent via text to your cell phone. It's similar to the process you already use whenever you log into your Westtown Google account from a new device. The first step in this process is setting up an app on your cell phone that will provide the second form of authentication. It is recommended that you follow the steps below while on campus so our Technology Office is available to support you if you run into any issues.

  • Open up a Safari browser tab on your iPhone and go to https://2fa.westtown.edu/smartphone/enroll.
  • Once the page loads, click on the first link ("Click to download and install Smartphone authentication for iOS") to open the App Store.
  • On the App Store page for NetIQ Advanced Authentication, click the blue “Get” button.

  • Once installation of the NetIQ Advanced Authentication app is complete, click the “Open” button to open the app. (If you've already navigated away from the App Store, find and open the app from your home screen).
  • Accept the “End User License Agreement”
  • Set a new PIN number (minimum four digits). Make sure it is a number you will remember. Each time you use the app to authenticate for a remote connection, you will need to unlock it first. You can use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock the app, or you can use the PIN.
  • Enter the same PIN again to confirm.
  • Go back to https://2fa.westtown.edu/smartphone/enroll in your browser.
    • Click on the second link.
    • The link will change to read “Click to enroll”. Click again.
    • Click “Open” on the prompt to “Open in NetIQ Auth”.

  • Enter your Westtown short network username and click “Next”.

  • Enter your Westtown password and click “Next”.

  • Click “Allow” to receive notifications from NetIQ Auth.

  • In the NetIQ app, you should now see a “Smartphone authenticator” that is generating a new six-digit code every 30 seconds.

You have now installed the NetIQ Advanced Authentication app and set it up as an authenticator for Westtown remote access. We will provide further instructions about using 2-factor authentication for Horizon and WatchGuard Mobile VPN.
