How do I subscribe to Westtown School calendars on a computer?
Introduction
- The below steps will guide you through the process of subscribing to a MyWesttown calendar feed (WebCal feed) on your computer.
- Included in a WebCal feed are calendar event details for the past 2 months and upcoming 12 months. Adding a WebCal feed to your calendar produces an automated sync that will periodically update your calendar.
- This article provides an overview of available MyWesttown Calendars and their associated event categories.
- These instructions guide you through the process of subscribing to calendars on your iPhone.
- NOTE: Android users must complete the subscription process on a computer.
Instructions for Computer
Step 1
- Log into MyWesttown on your computer
- Click Calendar
Step 2
- Click the RSS feed button (top right corner of the calendar)
Step 3
- Once you click the RSS feed button (Step 2), you will be presented with a pop-up window, WebCal Feed for External Calendar, which includes a series of calendars. To locate individual feeds for a given calendar, click the “right-pointing triangle”.
NOTE:
- Each calendar consists of a collection of individual filter feeds. For each available calendar, you have the option to select the ‘Entire Calendar’ or one 'Individual Filter Feed at a time.
- For example:
- You can select your child’s Entire Calendar or just an Individual Filter Feed (e.g. Class Events, Games/Practices, etc.)
- You can select the Entire School Calendar or just an Individual Filter Feed (e.g. Lower School Calendar, Middle School Calendar, Upper School Calendar, etc.)
Step 4
- Right-click on the desired 'Entire Calendar’ or ‘Individual Filter Feed' hyperlink (screenshot below demonstrates how to obtain WebCal link for the Entire School Calendar)
- Click “Copy link address”
Step 5
- Now that you’ve copied the desired WebCal feed link address, navigate to your calendar app of choice to subscribe.
- Below are instructions for how to add a WebCal calendar feed to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, and Outlook Calendar.
Google Calendar
- Open Google Calendar
- Click on plus sign “+” next to ‘Other calendars’ in bottom left corner
- Click “Add by URL”
- Paste Webcal URL (copied from Step 4)
- Click “Add Calendar”
- To rename a calendar:
- Hover over the calendar in need of a name change
- Click the drop down arrow to the right of the calendar name
- Click “Calendar Settings”
- The top line of the calendar lists the calendar name - make needed changes and click “Save”
Apple Calendar
- Open the Calendar app,
- Choose “File” > “New Calendar Subscription”
- Paste WebCal URL (copied from Step 4)
- Click "Subscribe"
- Enter a name for the calendar in the Name field and input preferred settings
- Location options:
- iCloud account: the calendar is available on all your computers and devices that are set up with iCloud.
- On My Mac: the calendar is saved on and only accessible from your computer (not accessible from any other device)
- Auto-refresh options:
- Ranging from Every 5 minutes to Every week, this designates how often your calendar feed will be updated.
Outlook Calendar
- Open Outlook Calendar
- In the navigation pane, click “Add Calendar”
- Click “Subscribe from web”
- Paste WebCal URL (copied from Step 4)
- Enter a Calendar Name
- Click “Import”
